Let’s cool down on the water. It’s not just a fun afternoon on the water, practice today is a concentrated cross training focus on proprioception, upper body gross motor, and balance. 
 
Wear-    
•    Bathing suit under clothes to practice.  If participant is planning to use a wetsuit, limit frilly suits.  
•    Rash guards are great for cover up and protection. 
•    Aqua socks or strap back sandals are recommended.  
•    Sunscreen/hat

Today we explore rock! We are heading to N. Berkeley to start our adventures in climbing respecting Ohlone land, learning topography, safety and movement. 

What to Wear? —Layers!

  • Athletic Clothes - capris or outgrown sweats w/the bottom trim cut (no bellbottoms or jeans)

  • Sneakers (not crocs or sandals)

  • Jacket

  • Sunscreen

  • Bring snack, water bottle/warm tea


Use the bathroom before heading up the hill to class. Careful crossing the street. For the integrity, interest and safety of class, we would appreciate parents and siblings allow for class space and time to develop w/o distractions. There are tables and benches on both sides of the park.

Rumor has it Bob Ross was homeschooled (jk). We will create our own masterpieces today overlooking the Bay and perhaps catching a glimpse of a bear! After morning yoga session, we'll settle in to a free art space to create! All supplies provided!

From Oakland, Berkeley, or San Francisco: Take I-580 East EXIT Golf Links Road / 98th Ave. LEFT (east) onto Golf Links Road. Drive under freeway & thru intersection at light. (Oakland Zoo will be on your right). Continue straight uphill on Golf Links Road. (Knowland Park will now be on your right). Follow Golf Links Rd. around thru canyon till you enter Grass Valley, a small residential area. first RIGHT onto Caloden StRIGHT onto Malcolm Ave. Follow Malcolm Ave. uphill. RIGHT onto one of the cul-de-sacs. Park on street. Knowland Park will be straight ahead. 


From Castro Valley, Hayward, or Dublin/Livermore: Take I-580 West EXIT Foothill Blvd / MacArthur Boulevard Merge onto Foothill Blvd. Slight RIGHT to stay on Foothill Blvd. first RIGHT onto 106th Ave. RIGHT onto Sheldon St. Continue onto Malcolm AveLEFT onto the cul-de-sac of Cameron Ave. Park on street. Knowland Park will be straight ahead. (For maps and more detail, paste "Malcolm Ave & Cameron Ave, Oakland, CA 94605" into the  destination box of Google Maps.)

In the Chabot Park neighborhood, off of 580, a handful of streets that branch off of Malcolm Ave dead-end into Knowland Park Open Space. Be sure to respect the neighbors’ access to their driveways and park considerately. Try the end of Edgemont or Snowdown Avenue if you want to pick a street name to put into your GPS.

When you arrive, head down the hill towards the Zoo. You will see a small sign that says “public trail” as you approach the Zoo fence on your left.

Let's take a trip to the lighthouse! We'll take the challenging descent to capture the panaromic views of the Pacific Ocean Coastline at Point Reyes Lighthouse.

This is an extended day! 10a-1p 
It is an 1.5 drive from Oakland proper, please plan accordingly to arrive and spend the day.

Field Day! We bring the fun in teambuilding with a day full of activities!

What to Wear :Long shorts / cargo pants (jeans not recommended), athletic pants 
Sneakers / hiking bootsLayers - short sleeve, light jacket / hooded sweatshirt 

What to Bring : (Everything labeled and fit in a backpack please) 
Lunch - minimize refuse  
Hand wipes 
Small trash bag 
2 water bottles w/leak proof tops 
1 Towel 
Bathing suit, 
swim cap (if needed),

Spectrum Adventure Team Practice

What's SUP Team?!!  Let's end with the fun challenge of Standup / sit down paddle board!

Wear-    

•    Bathing suit under clothes to practice.  If participant is planning to use a wetsuit, limit frilly suits.  
    

•    Rash guards are great for cover up and protection. 
    

•    Aqua socks or strap back sandals are recommended.  

•    Sunscreen/hat
No crocs on the dock!

Bring-    

•    Water bottle (strap or carabiner is highly recommended)
    

•    Towel
    

•    Change of dry clothes
 

Parents: Arrive early if changing before practice is not feasible. Bathrooms are across from the corner of the SUP shop. Please allow for transition time before and after practice.  Participants should use the bathroom, apply sunscreen and have bathing suits on prior to the start of practice. The shop is small, please do not bottleneck during transition. Allow for +10 mins for changing at the end of practice.

Let’s get on the water. Today we are kayaking after a ground stroke school review water entry/exit and clean up we will paddle in the lagoon to learn Oakland donuts and paddling backwords!

  • Mess Kit (washable plate, bowl, spoon, fork, cup)

  • 1/2 cut dish sponge

  • Flashlight/ head light

  • Sm. pillow

  • 2 Lg. Nalagene / leak proof drinking bottle

  • 1 lg garbage bag

  • 2 - gallon zip lock bags

  • 2 - qt size zip lock bags

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug Spray

  • Chapstick

  • Walking sticks

  • Small day pack/holder for water bottle & snack on hike

Keep packing very simple! Layers they put on in the evening will be the layers they put on in the morning!

All clothes in a stuff sack -

  • Toiletries: Toothbrush, paste, washcloth (for washing face off at night/morning), small bio-degradable liquid soap (in ziplock), glasses case.

Help them prepare for the camping experience and camping environment. We will celebrate their individuality and uniqueness, and it is extremely important to maintain safety.

PLEASE NOTHING FLAMMABLE - UNFORTUNATELY CLOAKS, LEATHER +CAMPFIRE ARE NOT PERMITTED. STUFFY ALLOWANCE IS 2 (and they must be washable). NO IPADS, ELECTRONICS OR CELLPHONES UNLESS THEY ARE USED AS COMMUNICATION DEVICES. HAIR MUST BE PULLED BACK/CAPPED FOR SAFETY.

ANYTHING VALUABLE AND IMPORTANT SHOULD STAY AT HOME.

Welcome to bring their own sleeping bag and ground pad. Please check zippers and make sure they work.

Parent Asks:

  • Please communicate the schedule early with participants. Ask questions! Show pictures of Mount Diablo. Find historical connections (maritime) of this area together. (What are Walking Tacos? What are you going to put in yours? Are you excited about this idea? It sounds pretty cool to eat Walking Tacos!).

  • Communicate this is a safe camping trip and a gentle introduction to overnight camping.

  • Reaffirm they are all ready for this overnight experience.

  • Re-enforce body autonomy and consent conversations.

  • Re-enforce body boundary respect conversations (re: touching/hitting).

  • Have gentle conversations about language expression (cussing) and calming techniques.
